Hello

Pam Charlton
SEBD 09
Hi my names Pam, I'm just starting my second year of studies. I have enjoyed the last few weeks when I haven't been studying but am now ready to start again.
I am the SEN Teacher at an International school in Luxembourg and am hoping to gain a lot from this module as we have a number of children that attend school that have some form of SEB difficulties.
Look forward to talking with other students soon.

Hi Pam,

I hope that you do gain from this year. It does give you time to look at a variety of approaches to SEBD. I am a firm believer in creating strategies that are long term and effective driven by the adult who is confident and which are clear to the pupil. However, this is only one way of thinking and there are many others that I hope you will discover especially when you visit other providers and perhaps share your findings with others. At present I hope you are pursuing the basic information required in the initial study. Sonia

Wondered if you had completed any work yet that you would like me to see. Dec 1st was the in date for autobiograpth and ILP. Sonia

I have just read your comment above and am a little concerned. I placed all my work into my folder for you on Monday 30th November. I presume from what you have said that you haven't seen it. I placed it in my folder where I placed all my work last year, is this the correct place?
Please let me know
Pam

It is Thursday morning, October 9th and I have just replaced the module handbook so if you have already downloaded it, you might want the more recent version although I understand there are no major changes. Alison

Hi everyone. I am Ian Terrell the director and I am really keen to get some discussion going on emotional/social and behaviour as its something that affects many teachers working lives and the learning of children. Good luck with thi innovative approach through discussion.

Welcome to the SEBD module

Dear Pam, Welcome to the SEBD module. You will be very familiar with the format of the module and should really enjoy this year as much as having a break from it!
As you know Sonia Burnard is your tutor on this pathway and I hope that you enjoy your studies with her.
I'm on holiday next week but will look forward to introducing some hot seat guests with specialisms in the area of emotional and behavioural issues to you after half term.
Kind Regards,
Ruth Green

Getting started

Posted by Sonia Burnard at Oct 23, 2009 04:35 PM
I am Sonia Burnard and would like to welcome you to this SEBD module. You do have some interesting areas for discussion and tasks. However, I would like to ask you to look at the national legislation and guidance for SEN and consider when (S) EBD began to appear more formally in legislation up to September 2005. You might want to consider the attitude to behavioural difficulties in the Elton Report. If you are elsewhere, you could research this where you are. Perhaps you have comments on the process of its inclusion. Children with SEB difficulties are hardly new to the human landscape.

Hope to hear from you about this to start your thinking, Sonia

I am really looking forward to getting into the course and sharing insights with people who are interested in providing the best possible education for children with SEBD. Working in a special school that caters for SEBD I have a great deal of practical experience. What I am hoping to develop is a more sound understanding of why these children behave as they do and consider new ways of working with my colleagues to achieve best possible outcomes.

i'm surie, i did joine to this course from 15 Oct. but still was fascinated by all the information about SEN children. i do teach Foundation stage children and we did come across children with SEBD so i got interested to know the cause of it, and the way of dealing with to be able to help more.

hi Suri

As with everything in life it is not possible to have one factor that characterises SEBD. This is a very complex area and I hope that over the year, you will find some answers to your questions. It is useful that you are in the foundation stage. There is now some interesting research into early learning and for instance, ADHD. You might google Bruno Anthony in USA who is an authority ion this area. However, you do have some work to do initially to get a basic knowledge of the area. Look forward to your comments. Sonia

I have just started in year one and have never signed up for distance learning before. I feel quite nervous about virtual discussion groups and have already left an 'hello message' on another welcome page! Anyway...HELLO. I'm not a teacher but have spent over 20 years working with young people with challenging behaviour. I now work as a student manager in a 14-18 community college managing behaviour and welfare of students..and staff! I have recently been given the job of setting up an intervention classroom and have found the audit and needs analysis very useful.

Challenging behaviour

Posted by Pamela Diane Charlton at Dec 04, 2009 07:38 PM
Hello Joy
My name is Pam and I'm the SEN teacher in an international school and I am currently monitoring the amount of children that miss minutes from 'Golden time' due to unsuitable behaviour. I plan to investigate the amount of children that regularly miss time and have a learning difficulty or those that have currently been over looked as having some form of learning need. This is my focus for the year, I find this subject very interesting. As one strategy does not suit all. You obviously have a wealth of knowledge on the subject and I look forward to hearing more from you on the subject. Good luck with your studies.

Hi Joy

Wondered how you were doing...anything you would like to send me?

Sonia

Hi Joy

Posted by Joy Geary at Dec 19, 2009 06:57 PM
Yes Sonia,I have finished the unit but I'm not sure how or who to send it to.
I thought the deadline was the 1st January as it was last year (Powerpoint) so I'm really panicking now that I'm not getting the proper information. I can't access my outlook email..is this where everyone is??

Hi Joy

Posted by Joy Geary at Dec 19, 2009 07:25 PM
I've just participated in some experiential learning and Kohler would be proud of me....I hope I have now put my unit 1 work in the right place. It's in my folder on this site. Can you access this, Sonia, or do I now send it from there somewhere else....if I fiddle about again I might discover the answer myself, hey!

Joy :)

SEBD MAY 2010

I have just enrolled in this study, in the hope that it will not only benefit me professionally, my class or the school community but it will give me some insight into my son's autism and behavioural traits.

Question from New Student SEBD module

Posted by Emma Jones at Sep 26, 2010 08:24 PM
I am enrolled on the SEBD module PDT4021 and have just discovered this forum. I was wondering if anyone could clarify if this is the place where students discuss the ongoing module and if this is my paoint of contact with my tutor. I am studying on-line from a distance and feel very far away at the moment any point of contact would be appreciated. Emma Jones

I signed up to SEBD course in February, but life and work has delayed my actually getting started! In fact, have only just found the outline and handbook - got a lot to catch up on!
